The client is an expert in room decontamination systems for use in healthcare environments and were looking for a way to efficiently deliver a new piece of UV technology. The system consists of the main unit with UV-C tubes, the process monitor and multiple spectrome monitors.
The product has 2 versions, 1 used for sensing chemicals in the air and the other to monitor UV levels, we had to encapsulate the electronics for both versions into a dual purpose casing design. Another of the key challenges with this project was to come up with design solutions that could initially be manufactured in small batch quantities in order that the system could be tested in real-world situations before mass production. We worked closely with the electronics engineers during the development ensuring that the design of the casings met the strict criteria while also ensuring the design was flexible enough enable design iterations to be easily incorporated.
As well as providing industrial design and development services from concept through to production drawings we also arranged the initial batch production units.
The client had already developed most of the system but they asked us to help them refine some of the components for manufacture. The product is designed to automatically isolate, feed and harvest individual cells in labs.
Material selection and manufacturing options were key to ensuring the product could withstand decontamination and be made to tight tolerances. As part of the process we also produced low-volume production parts which were used for validation and user trials.
